Directions, parking and getting here

We are on the west side of Thomasville Road in Midtown — the low building with the hand-painted sign, the sun mural and the turquoise panels.

The address

921 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32303

Midtown sits between downtown and the Betton Hills neighbourhood. If you are coming up Monroe Street from the Capitol, Thomasville Road branches off to the right and we are a short way along on the left.

By car

Driving in from four directions

Thomasville Road is one of the city’s main arteries, so almost every route ends up on it eventually. These are the simplest ones.

From downtown & the Capitol

Head north on Monroe

Follow North Monroe Street north out of the government district. Where Monroe and Thomasville Road split, bear right onto Thomasville. Continue through the Midtown blocks; Kool Beanz is on your left, roughly a mile and a half from the Capitol.

From I-10

Exit 203, then south

Take the Thomasville Road exit from Interstate 10 and head south towards town. Stay on Thomasville for about three miles through the Betton Hills area; the restaurant is on the right just before you reach the Monroe Street junction.

From Florida State University

Tennessee Street to Monroe

Head east on West Tennessee Street to Monroe Street, turn left and go north, then bear right onto Thomasville Road at the split. Around ten minutes without traffic, longer on a game day.

From the airport

Capital Circle, then in

From Tallahassee International, take Capital Circle south-west round to Tennessee Street or Apalachee Parkway and head into town, then follow the downtown directions above. Allow about twenty-five minutes.

Parking

The lot is small. The street is your friend.

There is an on-site lot, and at 11:15 on a Tuesday you will park in it without a thought. At 7:15 on a Friday you will not. This is a genuinely small restaurant with a genuinely small lot, and everyone who eats here regularly has learned the same trick: park on the side streets.

The residential blocks immediately behind and around Thomasville Road have free street parking, usually within a two- or three-minute walk of the door. Read the signs, keep driveways clear, and be considerate of the neighbours who have put up with us for thirty years.

A few practical notes

  • Rideshare drop-off works well right at the front of the building.
  • If you are collecting a takeaway order, tell us when you call and we will time it so you are not circling.
  • Midtown gets busy on FSU home-game weekends and during legislative session. Add fifteen minutes.

Getting here — common questions

Where do I park?

There is a small lot at the restaurant. It fills fast at peak times — when it does, there is free street parking on the residential blocks just off Thomasville Road, usually within a two- or three-minute walk. Please read the posted signs and avoid blocking driveways.

Is Kool Beanz wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The main dining room is on one level and reachable without stairs. The dining room is compact, so if you are using a wheelchair or a walker, let us know when you arrive or call ahead and we will hold a table with good clearance.

Can I walk here from downtown or from FSU?

From downtown Tallahassee it is roughly a mile and a half up Monroe and Thomasville, which is a comfortable half-hour walk in good weather. From the Florida State campus it is a longer walk and most people drive or take a rideshare.

Is there a bus?

StarMetro runs services along the Monroe and Thomasville corridor. Check the current StarMetro route map and timetable before you set out, as routes change.

Are dogs allowed?

The covered patio is the place to bring a dog. The indoor dining room is not, per Florida food-service rules. Water bowls are available — just ask.
