Accessibility
What we have done to make this website usable, what the restaurant itself is like, and how to tell us when we have got something wrong.
This website
We have built this site to be usable by as many people as possible, aiming at the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a working standard. In practice that means:
- Every page works from the keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
- A “skip to content” link at the top of each page.
- Descriptive alternative text on photographs.
- Text that reflows and stays readable at 200% zoom and on small screens.
- Colour contrast checked against the AA thresholds for body text.
- Animation, including the scrolling dish ticker, disabled automatically when your device is set to reduce motion.
- Menus published as real text rather than as images or PDFs, so screen readers can read them.
The embedded Google Maps frames on the contact and directions pages are third-party components whose accessibility we do not control. Every page that uses one also gives the address and directions in plain text.
The restaurant
The main dining room is on one level and reachable without stairs. It is, however, genuinely small — that is part of its character and also its main limitation. If you use a wheelchair, a walker or a service animal, call ahead on (850) 224-2466 or tell us on arrival, and we will find you a table with proper clearance rather than squeezing you in.
The room is loud when it is full, which can be difficult if you use a hearing aid or find background noise hard. Early lunch and the first dinner seating are considerably quieter, and the covered patio is quieter again. For a genuinely quiet meal, The Room is a separate space.
Menus are read aloud by staff as a matter of routine, because the menu changes daily and guests often ask. If you would like the whole menu read to you, or explained in detail, just ask — it is completely normal here.
Tell us when something does not work
If any part of this website or the restaurant creates a barrier for you, we want to know so we can fix it. Call (850) 224-2466 or write to Kool Beanz Cafe, 921 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Please tell us which page or which part of the building, and what happened.
